What's in an edit? whilst not a new phenomenon, it's surely an activity on the rise at the moment. Rather than a side effect of a scene bereft of ideas, this explosion in re-edits and the rethinking of old classic records is actually born out of a new sense of freedom.
Having been through a very scene centric and genre centric period in the early part of this new millenium, we're at a wonderfully rich crossroads, where genre doesnt matter, wonderful crossover music covers the ground as far as the eye can see, and this isn't really restricted to just one scene...we're ALL on board.

I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself when i think it's possible we could be on the cusp of something very special, inventive and truly glorious. Just listen to some of the stuff that's coming out right now, a lot of the edits you will recognise, even know and love, but they're being restyled and used in a different manner.
Forget what you know about Disco, House and Techno and spend a few minutes enjoying the new connection that links these edits together. You can almost hear the noise of people telling you how they think your record should sound actually fade away, leaving us with the artistic imperative to make good music and aim for something completely new.
The return of optimistic music....maybe that's what the Mayans we're on about with their 2012 prophecies.
